MOVIE CLUB - MARY AND THE WITCH'S FLOWER

On August 14th we will be hosting a free screening of the magical debut animation from Studio Ponoc, Mary and The Witch's Flower.

The beautifully animated film is based on the 1971 book 'The Little Broomstick' and tells the story of Mary who finds a mysterious flower that gives her the power to become a witch for one night only. She finds herself above the clouds at Endor College, a school of magic run by headmistress Madam Mumblechook and the Doctor Dee. There are terrible things happening at the school, and, when Mary tells a lie, she must risk her life to try to set things right...

Studio Ponoc is a new studio founded by ex-Studio Ghibli producer Yoshiaki Nishimura who's previous work inclues the iconic Howl's Moving Castle, The Tale of Princess Kaguya and When Marnie Was There.

Mary and the Witch's Flower is directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi who has animated Studio Ghibli classics like Spirited Away and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea before directing When Marnie was there alongside Nishimura.
